Health Care
In the early 1960's, before government got involved in the health care industry low cost insurance was available to everyone, even to people with existing medical problems. Doctors made house calls and private charities were able to take care of poorer families that could not afford health care plans at the time. Ever since the 1960's, the government has intervened more in our health care system. Through Medicare, Medicaid, and the HMO Act, you can thank your government for providing thousands of pages of regulations on doctors and hospitals, while simultaneously causing your insurance premiums to go through the roof.
Today in America, health care costs continue to grow at rates higher than inflation, government health programs are headed for bankruptcy, and at the same time our politicians pile on with the regulations which they say are meant to provide us with better care. Unfortunately there is no such thing as free health care. Somebody has to pay. The current bill in the Pelosi Congress is nothing more than a massive tax increase on every individual in America. It does not provide free health care to anyone. It ends the tax free benefits provided by our employers and drives up costs throughout the medical industry. It also rations health care to the baby boomers just when they are reaching the age when they need a reliable health care industry, and it eliminates the rights of both doctors and patients.
Do you really want the government deciding when and where you can receive health care?
At the same time we are rationing health care to our aging citizens, the Pelosi Congress is trying to undermine our free market economy by forcing us to provide government subsidized health care to illegal immigrants, and eliminating the ability for our medical providers to operate at a profit. How many times have you heard the Democrats state that they want to make our health insurers, medical providers, and drug companies unprofitable. Profit is a good thing, it increases the supply of drugs, hospitals, doctors, nurses, and medical equipment.
It is also important to point out that government does not increase competition by taking over our health care industry. This is the complete nonsense of Michael Moore and the Cuban medical system. There are no new drugs developed in Cuba; no new medical devices invented in Cuba, and not enough doctors to treat all of the patients in Cuba.
As Governor I will stand up to the false claims of the Pelosi Congress before they destroy our health care system with socialist economics that wipe out profits and bankrupt our medical professions. We must not allow our legislatures to impose socialism on our health care system. History has shown that all forms of socialist economies create shortages of supply and the elimination of goods and services. Remember the bread lines of the USSR at the end of the 1980's. Adopting Pelosi's bills will do the same thing to our medical system.
Like Ronald Reagan said:
"Government is not the solution to our problems, government IS the problem."
